Google's Pixel 9 (Pro) Case

I remember looking at cases for the Pixel 9 series, and there was one case brand that was reminding you that the 9 and the 9 Pro were different and needed different cases.  I almost took a photo of their comparison to share because it was laughable.

But ... no, the 9 and the 9 Pro are IDENTICAL when it comes to cases.

When Google sent over the 9 Pro, this time they included the case - you can watch me unbox it here - and I do love the 'proper case' for the phone.  It's like getting the sommelier to get you the right pairing... this is what Google suggests goes best with that phone.

Or so you might think.  Sure, this $49CDN case matches the 'hazel' colour of the phone, but is it the 'best'?

In my unboxing, I did mention I liked the 'texture' of the phone.  Hard to really give that impression over video, but I found the Pixel 8 cases to be really a 'slippery' style of rubber, where as this had more ... friction?

I tried it for a week to see if it might 'wear down', but it hadn't, so I liked its feel in the hand.  The right mix between a 'grip' and a comfy.

On the interior it has a nice 'velvet' kind of feel so that'll be good to help keep dust off the phone.  It also provides some rigidity to the back.

Now, I say to the 'back', as this rigidity didn't carry over to the edges.  I'd often take it out of my pocket and something looked off.

If you can see the difference there, the corner on the top picture shows it has come off a little from the edge.

I do like how little 'wall' there is between the edge of the case and the phone (the UAG it's very deep), but this also has the downside without any forming on the edges where it is sliding off of the phone too easily.

It's nothing 'horrible', but it's a nuisance, and has me concerned about the long term usability of the case.  Will it become more and more pliable where it may entirely come off on its own?

The final reason I eventually eschewed this case for the UAG Plyo (and not just because of the integrated magnets, you can just buy those stickers from Scosche) was the opening for the charging port.

Something I didn't even notice ... not many people are really looking at cases like that.  But it's pretty narrow.  Perfect if you use the cord it came with.  But I like a GOOD cord.  For me, there are lots of NOMAD or similar options around - and that means that the housing around the cable end is pretty big.

Again, not that I often use cords to plug in my phone, but when I do, and then find it can't fit?  BAH...

Sure, I could probably get my exactoblade out and give it a trim, but luckily -- I just have the Plyo ready at hand to use.
