So, yeah, we'd been hearing the rumours for a bit. They made a huge splash and gotten into BestBuy, but just couldn't get that foothold needed and have decided to put their efforts where it better pays off for them, and are exiting sales in North America.
If you go to their site today (and because I'm in Canada it defaults to their Canada page) you'll see they have an important bulletin:
It was odd that the page was blank for me this morning - but if you go there now the phone images are back. Some stock still exists so you can still buy for a short period of time I guess.
The question is, what happens next? I've always loved OnePlus devices (just never enough to pry the Pixels out of my hand for a lengthy enough time).
OnePlus is assuring us that warranties are being honoured, and support will be there.
Interestingly, there' s a whole section about ColorOS (the UI of their sister company, Oppo), and how potentially devices may update to ColorOS vs. the OxygenOS they currently use.It will be interesting as things unfold.
I will be still holding onto my 15 as it's an amazing device, and my Pad 2 as it's my 'always take with me' for travelling. They'll continue to be supported for some time, but it'll be hard to find a replacement for these devices; right amount of power and price matching each other. Always been the best bang for your buck.
Farewell, OnePlus, it's been awesome.
Now, who remembers the very first One? I snagged one back in the day.
