Slots & Daggers is the right amount of simple entertainment

It wasn't too long ago I was really wondering what kind of 'mobile gaming' do we have anymore, it was so hard to find something that wasn't just ultra annoying with ads.

Mobile gaming is different than console, or whatnot, it's got to be some level of simple enough to load up, but also more than likely it's something you do between your emails and phone calls that it shouldn't be too 'engaging' that you can be able to pick it up and put it down simply.  Lately it's been Clash Royale or Boom Beach, aside from a plethora of those number puzzle games (and they have incredibly annoying ads), so I need something fresh.

One area of games I'd grown to be okay with are 'rogue' like games.  This comes from an old old old PC game that I really remember on our first PC, where it was an ASCII game that you move your character around a dungeon, get weapons and simple battle, and you just see how far you can get.  Every game was just slightly different, but common themes.  It was great because you could play and die and play again to see how it'd be different, or how you might use a power/upgrade differently next time.  That kind of game where you play, learn a little, die, play again.

Today's game "Slots & Daggers" is described in that roguelike RPG style - but it has an interesting way in which the RPG end of it is implemented; it uses a slot machine.

Best to just see it in action

Essentially, you start the game with a couple basic 'tools' to choose 3 of.  These are going to be used in the slot machine.  You come up against a monster and you have 3 wheels, which cycles between those 'tools' to fight against the monster.  So either a weapon or a shield.

It ups the game with magic (it bypasses shields), healing, poisons, etc...  Each enemy defeated earns you some coins, which you can use to purchase new tools, or upgrades to them or yourself (hence the RPG aspect of this game).

As you go through the game and eventually 'die', you get some 'chips' which you can then use to buy some permanent upgrade to let you get a little further.

It's so interesting and has eaten up some definite time of mine, but still can be played pretty shortly and keep it interesting enough to come back for another run.

I've gotten myself to a pretty neat place.  I have 5 spinners now, and can get to a point where there's this upgrade that let's me re-roll if I do a good skill check, there's a 'buzzsaw' that does a small damage and then re-rolls, and then another item that re-rolls the previous 2 spinners.  It can make an interesting 'chain' of events, with the 'right luck's you could get several hits on the baddie - that's always fun to watch it happen (especially, when it can include more chances with the hammer that has a % to stun the enemy, which gets you less chance to be hurt and more time to do more damage.

I'm going to keep playing, and definitely worth the few bucks.
