Work has me travelling a bit lately, and add in that it's pipe band travel season and a couple family trips too; and I'm always looking for something to ensure that I can charge my devices as I go around.
My normal go-to accessory is the Statik SmartCharge, it doubles as a powerbank so I can watch movies on the airplane, and then a wall charger when I'm in the hotel.
Well, Statik one-upped themselves with a new model now with their 2nd generation.
It comes in at $101 Canadian (I did say USD on the video), but it's also $80 on Amazon at the moment, still a bit pricey, but when you consider that it's got so much functionality, it really does come in handy.
Let's have a look at it.
So, over last year's model there's a couple great features to notice; immediately, it's smaller. 24% they say but keeps the same battery life (10,000mAh).
They ditched the Lightning plug for a 2nd USB-C cord on it.
Most noticeable for me is that they've gotten rid of that weird 'lip' for a phone to sit on to just simply change it to a kickstand.
Makes it way more functionally appropriate.
There is a 'Pro' model, which would be about $50 more, and for that you're going to add 50% battery (getting it to 15,000mAh), and you go from the max of 22.5W charging to 60W charging. Useful if you want to use it to charge your laptop/tablet.
Is the Gen2 or Pro for you? Depends on your use case.
I will say that the whole thing, despite having the AC plug to charge, can take up to 6hrs to completely charge - I would have preferred a faster 'fill up'.
But whichever you get, it'll be your 'always carry'.
