AI is ever evolving and today they've launched 2 new modes in the Gemini app for it to help you with your AI needs; 3.6 Flash and 3.5 Flash-lite.
This means we have 3 modes for Gemini to use (including the Pro mode).
Now what is the difference? Which should you use? Honestly, I'm not quite sure the 'real difference' myself, so I asked Gemini:
- Gemini 3.1 Pro
- Best for: Complex reasoning, deep technical tasks, and heavy analytical work.
- Example: Refactoring a large multi-file codebase, writing a detailed technical report, or solving complex logic and math problems.
- Gemini 3.6 Flash
- Best for: The ideal balance of speed, intelligence, and multimodal tasks.
- Example: Summarizing lengthy PDFs, analyzing charts and images in real time, or powering interactive daily AI assistants.
- Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite
- Best for: High-volume, lightweight operations where latency and cost are top priorities.
- Example: Automatically tagging incoming customer support emails, real-time chat translation, or simple data extraction.
