Unboxing the Hohem iSteady M7

Well, I've not been much of a video content creator (yeah, I've got a Youtube channel, but I've heard your comments, it's not great technically) so I've not been much into using recording accessories; but lately I'd been helping out with a few little projects and recording for the band as we ready for competition.  So I'm looking for things that might help out, and thanks to Hohem for sending this new gimbal along.

It's a good time as the Hohem iSteady M7 it's on sale at Best Buy (until June 11) for $299CAD (regular $399), there's a slightly less featured iSteady V3 for just $107CAD.

So, what is a gimbal?  Chances are if you're reading this you probably know what this is, but I'm not going to talk to you for a second.  Essentially, think of a selfie stick.  If you want to have something to hold the camera for you while you take a photo/video, it helps keep thing most 'steady' than if you were just holding the phone directly.

But, sometimes you may move the selfie stick jerkily or it'll tilt... a gimbal has some motor that will help compensate for that unsteadiness.  Tilt the stick to the left and it's arms will rotate the phone to the right.  There are way more modes and methods to it.  I've got a lot to learn about.

First, let's see what comes in the box; what do we get for $300?

So there's the gimbal, (which has a telescoping neck), a tripod base, there's a remote (with a reference monitor) that's detachable, and a light (with a camera in it for the AI tracking) and it's removable to flip around front to back, if you're in selfie mode or not, a USB cable to charge it, and then another coily cord to plug from the gimbal to your phone so you can charge your phone from it's battery (which on its own should last about 12 hours of use), and lastly its own travel case.

The whole thing is just 630g and feels sturdy enough.  Time for me to start reading the manual, downloading the app and seeing what I can do.
