Google is finally merging Fit and Fitbit as Google Health

So as a fan of the WearOS lineup since forever (I still have my LG G Watch) and we'd been using Google Fit every since then (or before) I'd never gotten into those Fitbits or whatnot.

Since Google had taken on Fitbit, the company, there had been that question about what would happen with the 2 lines.  Fitbit and their plethora of devices, and Google Fit with it's app that does tracking from various Smart watches.  Who would prevail?

Well, they're merging into one; Google Health.

Makes sense.  The Fitbit app is going to 'level up' they say and become the Google Health app.  Now, will the physical devices stay 'Fitbit'?  Probably as they've announced a new device with that branding in tact...

Emails have said that the Google Fit app will eventually be 'consolidated' into the Health app which also makes sense; and I've been using Health Connect for a long time to sync all my activities from Pixel Watch or Fitbit (or even OHealth when I used the OnePlus Watches) to have a central spot for all my activities.

  • The Google Health App: The Fitbit app is officially leveling up, consolidating Fitbit, Google Fit, and external data (Apple Health/Medical Records) into a single, holistic dashboard called Google Health.

Now, nothing has happened yet... Google never rams anything down anyone's throat that quickly; so we'll see how long it takes for the app to get re-branded and Fit to have 'migration'.

I'm torn as I've loved Google Fit way more than Fitbit (I've been trying to like it... they have really added in more 'love' to the app and AI integration with understanding what it all means holistically).  I like how Fit tends to have a better working with GPS data, whereas with Fitbit you have to manually track... small things I get.  We'll just see how it all plays out in the end.
