Okay, so my contacts at Google have sent on the brand new Pixel Buds 2a.
Now, 'a' is used by Google to indicate their device is a 'variant' that is more ... how shall we say 'a'ffordable?
There are some features it'll miss out on, but in doing so, it'll save the buyer some important dollars.
It's just interesting at this point the Pixel Buds 2a are $179.99 on pre-order ... but the Pixel Buds Pro 2 are on sale for the same price (regularly $300).
So what's the difference?
Well, let's unbox it, and maybe you can see
Okay, so when I opened the case, the device tried to connect to my phone/camera so it shut off the video... 'doh', but I think you got the gist of it.
For the most part they look exactly the same as the other, the one case is a little stubbier, but that should only concern you if you're like me, where you have both and you need to differentiate.
- Price: you can save $120 [if no sale]
- Battery: 10 hours [2 hours less] / 27 hours total [vs. 48 hrs]
- Oh, and no wireless charging (that's the deal breaker for me)
- Gestures: no 'swipe' gesture for volume
Those are the main differences (you can check out Google's comparator), there are definitely going to be some audio differences, mic control for quality etc... I'll let you know. For me, not being able to adjust volume (and there is no conversation detection by it to quiet itself while you talk with a friend), and having to get a cord to charge it... gah... if you're not going to include the cable in the box, it should be Qi compatible then.
