So the other day we had a quick family trip where I rented a vehicle, and I realized how old our vehicles are when I do that as this one had baked in Android Auto into the dash -- I'd never used Android Auto before so it was very cool. And serendipitous that just recently I was sent the CarpodGo T3 Pro to review.
Essentially, for $250 the device is an 8.9" 720p display which will act like a mini 'tablet' for your car. It'll connect to an iPhone and perform CarPlay or an Android for Android Auto.
In order to set it up it has some car mounting equipment with adhesives and the little 'ball joint' holders so that can find the right way to connect it for your vehicle. Whether to the dashboard you'll stick it, or a suction cup onto the windshield... you have options.
It comes with the CLA port adapter (with its own on/off button, in those situations where your CLA is on even when the car is off... there is no power switch for the display).
You have the option when you order a backup camera for it as well for $15 extra (if you don't have one, worth it). It's pretty interesting, you run a cord to the back for the camera, it has a mini plug to connect to the display. How it works is you plug a lead into the hot line of your back up light. So that once your car puts itself into reverse, the light goes on, and then that then signals the camera to turn on too, which then turns the display to show the camera.
It'll be interesting for me to fiddle with the wife's car to try to set that up, I'm not a super comfortable auto work.
There are different models to choose from will be
- 'dual bluetooth' - where you connect your phone to it (bluetooth), and then it connects to your audio system in the vehicle (bluetooth)
- FM transmitter - where you connect your phone to it (bluetooth), and then it transmits on FM for your radio to pick it up
- AUX only - where you connect your phone to it (bluetooth), and then you plug the device to your audio deck with a male-male 1/8" cord
I'm looking forward to installing it, and reviewing - sad that ultimately I think it'll be my wife's vehicle that'll get the benefit and not me.
