Here are the new Pro wireless buds from OnePlus, the Buds Pro 3, on sale for $229.99CDN at the moment.
I've had my hands on a lot of wireless earbuds lately, and I love having selection to be sure. Here's me unboxing them:
Opening them up they look very similar to the Nord Buds 3 Pro, but a bit pricier.
First up, the case 'looks like' leather. It doesn't exactly feel like, but it has the impressions of a 'skin'. That is helpful when I've got both the Nords and this to differentiate.
When you pull out the buds, they are now different from the Nords, as those were 'teardrop'ish shaped stems. These are standard stems.
Setting them up was super easy. You can download the HeyMelody app, which I'll showcase below, but with Google's FastPair it came up instantly that I want to set it up. And, if I grab another phone it tells me a set of earbuds from another device are available to work there too!
Using them, you'll notice that they've brought the volume sliders back (the Nords don't have that feature), but instead of tapping (or double tapping) the stems to pause and navigate, they are like the Huawei buds with a 'squeeze' or pinch for that interaction.
I'm a bit perplexed, it's not a 'gesture' I like to use on earbuds, especially if I'm on the move. Tap is much easier than a pinch.
To its credit, it does provide a noticeable enough 'chime' that it worked, so there is that.
Now, let's listen to it. It's co-developed with the Danish company, Dynaudio, so it's been specially tuned with their expertise to deliver some excellent sound. And it's good. It will take a real audiophile to notice difference.
Especially, if you opt to use their Golden Sound feature; essentially (and I just learned about how our unique ear shapes change the sound we hear) it tries to acoustically scan your ear and fine tune the EQ to match what should resonate best for YOU.
Then to even enhance you can adjust the EQ for more fine tuning.
Throw in a Noise Control mode that it's 2x smarter now to really clear out the disturbances and you've got a great listening space for yourself.
I enjoy the fact that it's also Qi charging, so that helps me as I have been running nearly 'cable-less' for any charging lately.
Now, would this be a good update over the 'non Pro' Buds 3? I always say that wireless charging is worth it. But the non-Pro are also taps instead of pinches... for the audio differences, there is some for sure, but for $80 I'm not sure many will notice.
I'll keep using it on some of my bike rides and let you know how I feel after a week or so.
