I hate to be the one to bring it up, but I've not had my AC on the past day or so, and even turned off a fan in one of my rooms.
It's starting to feel like summer is almost over, it's even getting dark by 1030pm now!
I know, but the summer over, means a return to 'routine' and for many people, that's a return to school (whether attending, taking some classes, or teaching), and that kind of mobility brings its own tech sort of requirements.
For me, I'm always hunting for power, and when I get a corner to set up, I like to dig in and set up my 'trench'. Well, it's been a while for me, but I sorta remember it.
I know how often I'm going from my work to volunteer board positions, and I like to bring my projector, tablet (can you tell I'm the tech guy for my boards?)... and different boards, means different set ups I take around.
So, I've got a great tablet I can bring around with me, and I have a decent projector (or access to a big TV), what I need is an adapter to work with that and then some power.
These 2 devices from Kensington are going in my 'go bag' from now on to satisfy this.
First up, need something to plug the tablet into the projector, for that they have the SD1700P Dock adapter which is a little on the pricey side at $199.99CAD, but let me justify that for you.
As a standard sort of HDMI adapter, it has the USB cord attached to it and you plug it into any tablet or laptop to have HDMI connections. But, it also has a second HDMI... ooh, so I could plug it into the projector and then another portable monitor... or I could leave it for the WFH office and have dual monitors attached just to it. Each are capable of 4K
Then, it also has Qi charging on the top. So, you can just plop your phone on and power it up. This works even if it's not plugged into a power source (your laptop or tablet would then flow power from it to the pad).
For ports, I must admit I was disappointed it was lacking in extra options for the price. It only has 2x USB-A ports and then a USB-C. It does have ethernet tho'.
I was thinking of using it for my home solution, but I need more than just 2 USB ports, and I'd want an extra USB-C port too. It doesn't even have a microSD slot.
It doesn't have as much as I'd like for my home option, but it is perfect for on the go.
But, while it's on the go, you'll want to power it up (pass through power from it to your tablet, etc...), and Kensington has a great 100W GaN charger for $99.99CAD.
Not something to sneeze at for price, but it's really pumping out 100 full Watts, and it comes with a comfortable amount of cable at 6ft.
This is more than enough wattage to power your Pixelbook, or Macbook, and use it to power the Qi pad above. It's only one port, but it's pumping the juice out to your devices.
So there you have it, my 'mobile office' connectivity added to my device lineup of my OnePlus Pad 2, Pixel 8... just find myself a cord and a monitor (or my projector) and I can set up shop wherever is convenient.
