Unboxing the new TCL 30 5G

My son's been using his TCL 20 Pro since last year and he's never had a peep of a complaint (teenagers can be very picky).  Well, it's time for the new models, and this year we aren't getting a new Pro model of the TCL phones.

The 2 phones sent to me are the TCL 30 5G and the TCL 30 XE 5G.

Essentially an economy model and an eXtra Economy model.  These devices provide a great alternate to the flagship lines of the big brands at not much cost.  Not getting a Pro saves you even more.

The TCL 30 is just $472CDN.  The XE model is only $355.

I'm unboxing the TCL 30 here to give you an idea.

Included were the Axessorize cases for each phone (the PROTech Plus for the TCL 30 and the PROTech Plus for the XE)

So it doesn't have many of the features the Pro did last year, but it isn't geared towards those that are looking for the more top end specs anyways.

For the $472CDN 30 5G, a quick glance at the specs are:

  • 6.7" @ 2400x1080
  • MediaTek MT6833 (2.2GHz x2 + 2.0GHz x6)
  • 4GB RAM
  • 128GB space (microSD slot up to 1TB)
  • Rear Camera
    • 50MP + 2MP (for depth)
    • 2MP macro
  • Front Camera
    • 13MP
  • 5010mAh
  • fingerprint sensor on power button

For the $355CDN 30 XE 5G, its specs are the same processor and RAM, just:

  • 6.5" @ 1600x720
  • 64GB storage
  • Rear Camera
    • 13MP + 2MP (for depth)
    • 2MP macro
  • Front Camera
    • 8MP
  • 4500mAh
  • fingerprint sensor on back
Stay tuned for a full review on the 30 5G in the coming days.
