Okay so the Pixel 11 is now available for pre-order!
Will you be ordering the new device? Without an official 'launch event' (where we learned specs etc...) we have just the specs online to pair up with and make our decision.
I have to admit, being on the call with Google as they unveiled to the media folks it was looking cool. The event showed off a lot. But is it sizzle, or is it steak? Well, a lot of the features tended to be software based (accomplishments by Gemini) and I'm still looking forward to those; but as I drilled down on to the specs (you know I'm a numbers nerd) the Pixel looks almost identical to last years models.
In fact, when you look at it at my sheet I've been using to compare, there's not a lot of difference, aside from it's more expensive. Sadly, the 16GB models are now relegated to only the 512GB storage models and higher. That feels like a major downgrade. The batteries are about the same, in some cases slightly up, some slightly down. All do get the 25W Qi2 option, so that's good - you just need a compatible system; as I've found that in the past year, the Pixel 10 Pro lasts well, but charging is a pain (am I spoiled by the OnePlus era?).
Another kick in the wallet is this year even tho' most are $150 more expensive (surprisingly the Fold has the least jump) they've now reduced the freebie AI Pro to just 6 months, instead of last year's full year.
Where would you land on this? Do you want the Pro... the XL... the Fold? For me, I'd love to try the Folds some day, but I still feel that they're novel and not utility quite yet. I've been getting used to the 'smaller' size of the nonXL models this past few years, but Google is sending on to me the XL this year.
I do hope it's the 16GB model, as I feel stepping back might be noticeable (when I reviewed the 9 vs. 9 Pro there was a noticeable difference in performance; not speed - but the multitasking).
Now, to help incentivize your purchase they are throwing a few deals out there.
- Fold - get either the new Pixel Watch 5 or $475 in store credit
- Pro/XL - buy the Watch 5 for $350 off or get $275 in store credit
- 11 - buy the watch for $200 off or get $150 in store credit
Not bad, I mean everything's going up in price these days (oh RAM prices), so you can order now and get sometime after Aug 20. I hope to have my tracking order soon for the review device from Google so I can give you my impressions as soon as possible.
