So, I've talked a bit in the past about what I take with me when I travel, and what are my go-tos for that (and how sad it is that when I travel I spend more time worrying about what chargers, battery packs, adapters, etc... I need, over what clothes I bring); well today's accessory that is my now 'always take in the travel bag isn't so tech related (yet it is kinda).
The Statik NanoPack Travel Kit is a handy dandy little bag you put your clothes and whatnot into in your suitcase, and then with the supplied little vacuum, suck all the air out until it really compresses the bag.
Thus, the saved space lets you put in more cables, an extra tablet etc... hah!
But really, it's a great thing. I tried doing some videos of it, but quiet as it was, it still was a little hard to hear me (my mic isn't that great I find and my lav mic just broke), so instead I am showing off a bit of a timelapse of it in action
I put some clothes in and I didn't notice too much of a space saving, your mileage might vary. I put in a pillow (I do like my own pillows in hotels, so this gives me a new option to ensure I have space for one) and it did compress a fair bit. It was even fully compressed almost 48 hours later. The zipper and seams on the bag are really good.
I'd be cautious of what clothes you use in it, as they are going to get wrinkled, more so than if you just put them in the suitcase (where I usually do the trick of hanging them in the bathroom with the hot shower running to help relax and smooth the clothes out - with this you'll probably have to actually iron). So I use this usually for my 'unmentionables' to compress the heck out of them - giving me more space.
The little device charges by USB and is said to be good for about 10-15 uses before being charged again - so you can go on a trip like us with 3 people and use it without worry (packing then unpacking, then re-packing); but it is just a USB-C cable needed, so I'll have plenty of those.
The trickier bit was figuring out how to get it to work. You have to 'unlock it' by holding the power button for 3 seconds. Then wait for a bit... then just click it again once to start it's action. It's not super intuitive and it always takes me a few tries to get it to work ... but it does.
It comes with a couple attachments depending on what you're going to use it on (again the attachment for this bag wasn't super obvious, so I fumbled a bit there). You could use it to blow up some inflatable mattress probably (using the outflow area), but I doubt the battery would last that long.
Overall, it's handy, it fits simply in the bag it comes in and something I now take with me all the time to help get a little more space in my suitcase so that either I can get another couple shirts or bathing suit, or just so I know it's not super stuff and and I have to squish everything to just make it fit.
