Statik's got 100W of reason for this portable adapter

I just did a quick trip for work recently, so I packed light.  Wasn't long.  But still needed a charger for my phone and my watch, something that would have 2 USB-C ports on it.  Maybe 3 if I wanted to charge a portable charger too.

Well, Statik has this 100W GaN Power Adapter that would have just been perfect.  My next few trips for work in the coming months means I will need to charge my laptop/tablet (I usually just bring a tablet for work trips), my phone, my watch and any other accessory I bring along -- so that's 4 ports.  I usually have to bring a couple 2x adapters with me.

This adapter still has me covered.  For $78CDN

Now, 100W power sounds great, and when you look at the box the top 2 USB-C are rated at 100W, the 3rd at 65W and the USB-A at 30W.

That doesn't mean you have 295W ready to go.  There's a split up if you're using more than one at a time.  Ideally it can get up to 100W max TOTAL (but for some reason with 4 ports it caps out at 95W)

On the device itself it gives you tiny print to make sure you know what's going on when what is using what:

It's hard to read/interpret tbh in my mind.  The website has a slightly better explanation.

Essentially:

  • Use one of the top 2 by itself, it can do 100W by itself.
  • Use any 2 USB-C and one's going to be 65W, the other 35W (total 100W)
  • Use all 3 USB-C will be 45 / 35 / 20 (total 100W)

and so on...  there's a lot of combinations to work out, and it will depend on what you're plugging in and how much it can take in from it, so it may redistribute based on the draw of the device.

I like this as I can take this one item on a trip and it covers whatever I need to bring with me.  Sure it's $78CDN (on sale at the moment), but if I had to bring 2 different 2x chargers, they'd be like $50 each, and may only go as high as 65W individually.  This is cheaper than 2 devices and if I just was plugging one thing in it could speed through at 100W (if your device could take it).

This will definitely come in handy for my travelling in the next few months.

Now, if I could find one like this that had an AC cord on it -- I'd like to power a few things on my desk but my power outlet is on the ground, so I'd need a long USB cord vs. having a charging station.  But that's now just me wishing.
