So the event is over and it's taken me a couple days to digest and, well, I have received one to review and play with (be patient, coming soon). But which are you interested in? There's a 'regular' 10, a 10 Pro, a 'big' 10 Pro XL, and the new foldie 10 Pro Fold!
By the paper here's what differences there are:
Okay, so that's a lot of detail.
The Pro is good. It has the zoom lens which is something the 'normie' wouldn't get.
But, if I pay $250 more I can get:
- more RAM (16GB from 12GB)
- higher resolution display
- slightly better rear cameras
- better selfie camera
- oddly 2% less battery
- Ultrawideband
- 1 year of Gemini Pro
I think it's worth it for the RAM alone, but the camera jumps are nice.
To go from the Pro to the Pro XL (a $280 jump), you'll notice:
- .5" bigger
- Faster charging
- ~7% bigger battery
This seems less like a cost/benefit boost, but if you like larger phones, this is it (funny, how I've gotten really used to the slightly smaller 9 Pro compared to XL models in the past).
The Fold, well that is sort of in a category unto itself. It's something I'd really love to try, as I feel that it's 'novel' still, but as a 3rd iteration for Google, I think they've matured it. IP68 on a foldable? Awesome. But you do make some sacrifices to the displays and cameras to have that 'uniqueness' of a phone (pretty much the 10, but foldable).
Now, the absolute awesome feature that this year brings for us tho' is that all the phones come with the new Qi2 charging standard, which means it has MAGNETS, so it can work with MagSafe (Apple's terminology) or as Google announced: Pixel Snap, accessories. Woot woot!
