Google's new Devices -- my highlights from the video

Okay, did you watch the video?

No? Well, do it.

Okay, you watched it?  Now, I'll admit, I got to see a lot of this at a pre-briefing by Google, and many of us have been seeing the leaks and rumours so there wasn't a lot of "OH WOW" moments in it for me but here's my highlights on the whole thing:

  • Gemini Gemini Gemini -- gonna be everywhere; he mentioned the glasses (I can't wait for those)
  • Did you see that speaker in the room?  Was that new?  Was that just something non-Google I'm not used to?  It would be good to see a new home item
  • Phones
    • The Pixel phones, only the Pro phone gets the 1 year Gemini Pro - that's a shame as even the 10 should as well, most of the specs will be the same; was it a RAM limitation?
    • Magic Cue - essentially Gemini will sift through your phone and use 'triggers' to recognize and give context.  Someone asks in a text message about when the next meeting will be, it can search through and see that you had an email with them saying next week; so it'll prompt with that response
    • Camera Coach - so no more just having the 'guides'; you can take a temp pic and it can give you suggestions on how it could have been framed.
    • Call Voice Translation - live voice translation over the phone with the intonation of the original speaker
    • Qi2 -- haha, they said Apple on the stage.  Use your MagSafe accessories with this phone!
  • Pixel Buds
    • Pixel Buds Pro 2 will come with new updates to allow gesture response (i.e. nodding and shaking head to accept/reject)
    • Pixel Buds 2a coming out
  • Pixel Watch
    • Pixel Watch 4 coming out... filled with a lot of 'fitbit' (I'd really wish they stuck with their Google Fit, or could just merge them already, I don't like fitbit)
So those were the quick thoughts by me; I'll do a separate article covering the device specifics.
