Google Maps adds Immersive options in select Canadian Cities

Improving more and more on the Google Maps experience, you can now use the "Immersive Mode" in 5 cities in Canada now

  • Calgary
  • Edmonton
  • Montreal
  • Ottawa
  • Toronto

Not a lot, but definitely 5 more than they had yesterday!

What immersive mode does is allows you to mash together their Google Earth 3D views and near street level viewing and help you find your way in town.

Last year, Google launched Immersive View, a groundbreaking way to explore the world through Google Maps, and we’re thrilled to announce this immersive experience is now available in five major Canadian cities - Montreal, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa and Edmonton - to help Canadians explore in a whole new way!

Immersive View fuses together billions of Street View and aerial images with advanced computer vision and AI, to create lifelike, multi-dimensional experiences, that help Canadians experience different places and locations virtually as if they are actually there.

To check it out:

  1. Open Google Maps on your device.
  2. Search for a landmark or place of interest in one of the five cities now offering Immersive View.
  3. Look for the Immersive View preview (a small video thumbnail) in the search results.
  4. Tap the preview to launch the full experience!
