TD bank cards now work with Samsung Pay

In another thwack against Google Pay... argh.

I've been waiting forever for TD to work with Google Pay, and TD has always stood by 'we have a mobile payment system, we're good' kind of stance.  Anywho...

TD now works, not only with Apple Pay, but it now works on Samsung Pay.

Samsung Electronics Canada Inc. (Samsung) announced today that eligible TD cards, including TD Access Cards and TD Credit Cards, are now supported by Samsung Pay, the widely accepted mobile payment system that works almost anywhere shoppers can swipe or tap their card.[1] This collaboration with TD significantly expands the availability of Samsung Pay to Canadian cardholders.

The Samsung Pay expansion comes as contactless payments grow in popularity across Canada. To help spur greater adoption of contactless transactions as a fast and safe payment option, card issuers in Canada increased contactless transaction limits from $100 to $250 last year.[2] At the start of 2021, contactless payments accounted for close to 60 per cent of overall transactions across the country.[3]

“Samsung Canada is committed to providing quick and seamless payment experiences for all Canadians, and welcoming TD to our mobile payment ecosystem is the latest collaboration in that mission,” said Raj Doshi, Head of Mobile Business, Samsung Canada. “Canadians have long relied on their mobile devices to make life easier, and over the last year, their reliance on smartphones has only increased, with contactless payment methods becoming not just the norm but the preference. With Samsung Pay, we are helping to honour that preference for TD customers.”

Samsung Pay is simple and convenient to use and is available on compatible Galaxy smartphones and Galaxy wearables. To make purchases, users can simply open Samsung Pay or swipe up at the bottom of their Galaxy device and select the card to pay with, verify using their fingerprint, face recognition or PIN, and tap to pay anywhere contactless payments are accepted in Canada.[4]

In addition to payments, users can collect the same rewards and benefits they normally enjoy with Samsung Pay by uploading eligible loyalty cards to the app.

Samsung Pay is compatible with a wide range of Samsung smartphones including the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G, Galaxy Z Fold3 5G, Galaxy S21 Series 5G, Galaxy Note20 Series 5G, Galaxy Note10 & Note10+, Galaxy Watch4 Series, Galaxy Watch3 and Galaxy Watch Active2[5]. The mobile payment system supports eligible credit and debit cards from more than 80 banks and credit unions across Canada.[6]

Samsung Pay is available for download today from the Samsung Apps Galaxy Store and Google Play.
