[Update:Pricing] Samsung introduces a tough tablet - Galaxy Tab Active2

[Update: Pricing is now revealed... eep.  $772 at PCM Canada and $681 on sale at PC-Canada]

Are you using a tablet anymore?  At one time it was a necessary thing.  It was the choice for media consumption on mobile... but lately it's kind of waned in use.  I haven't really pulled mine out of the sleeve in a while now.

However, there has been a bit of a turn of trade with industry starting to use them more.

Now, if you're going to use a tablet in those kinds of senses, you'll need something a little tougher.

Introducing the Galaxy Tab Active2

The idea here is that it's a standard tablet, but suped up to the hilt with protection, and comes with a customized S-Pen.

Now, they say it's available, but I have yet to find a website that's actually selling it and for what price.  I found reviews in the US saying it was running $420USD (about $560CDN).

What do you get for all that?  That's a pretty pricey tablet.

  • 8" @ 1280x800
  • 1.6GHz x8
  • 3GB RAM
  • 16GB storage + microSD (256GB max)
  • 8MP / 5MP
  • 4450mAh
  • Android 7.1
The short answer is, not a lot.  The main advantage here is that it comes equipped with a customized S-Pen with a cool little sleeve, and it's also MIL-810-G spec'd.

This means that it's above and beyond IP68 (dust and water resistant), but that it can take a bit of a licking, and keep on ticking.  Exactly what you'd want on the factory floor, or in the warehouse etc...

The pricing puts it out of the typical consumer's hands, but maybe your office is in need of something like this?
