So, while we're still waiting for the XZ2 Virgin Mobile has stepped in to start offering last year's XZ1. Well, I say 'last years', but really it's still a fairly recent model. Sony has odd release schedules.
Anyways, it's now available at Virgin for the same $1000 outright, or on sale for $0 with their "Gold Plan". Not a bad deal.
(personally, I'd wait for the XZ2 with the better-placed fingerprint sensor and the Qi ... just have to find out about price and carrier availability)
