Android Pay is finally set to launch in Canada on May 31st, according to sources that have reached out to MobileSyrup.
During a breakout session at Google IO 2017 called "Powering Commerce Online and In-Store with Google Payments", Gerardo Capiel and Varouj Chitilian of the product management team for Consumer Payments at Google, confirmed Google Pay will go live in Canada "in the coming months."
"Over the past year, our team has been working around the clock to scale this foundation globally. I’m proud to say that Android Pay is now available in 10 markets, but we’re not stopping there. In the coming months, we’ll be launching in Brazil, Canada, Russia, Spain, and Taiwan."
No firm date was announced, however, this is a good indication that this is rolling around. Earlier this month we saw CIBC and Android Pay but that was quickly removed. There's been an indication that we have been moving towards the Android Pay with people reporting having the app showing up on their devices now.
