LG G Flex up for pre-order at Rogers

I'm not sure if this is 'new' or not, but it's new to me.  I just found out from our contacts at LG that the first curved display unit available in North America is heading to Rogers, and I'll be getting a chance to play with it soon!

The LG G Flex.  Whether you agree with the idea of a flexible screen or not, they're coming.

Now here's the specs:

  • 6.0" @ 1280x720
  • 2.26GHz x4 w/ 2GB RAM
  • 32GB Storage
  • 13MP / 2.4MP
  • 3500mAh
  • Android 4.2.2

So, compare that to the LG G2 and there's some concessions you make for some bonuses.  The larger screen (and +Brandon Starcevic reminds us HOW big as he got to play with a dummy unit) is nice, but it's at a smaller resolution.  I'm imagining this is because this is the first real flexible display ... so they're working on it to get better resolutions.  The bigger battery helps to accommodate the bigger display.  When I reviewed the G2 I raved about the battery.  I took it with me to Toronto and I was able to get off the plane and travel the subways around town, watch movies, etc... while on the way to LG to return teh device and it lasted all that time no problem.  At least 2.5hrs of movie time plus cellular data and mapping... phenomenal.  Adding 16% more battery should more than compensate for the bigger display.

There have been some issues with the device I've heard, some have said that the display isn't quite up to par with other 720p displays for colour reproduction.  That being said, I'm sure I'll like it... and I'm still jealous of all those +Ellen DeGeneres audience members that got one for free on her birthday.  Not to mention the flexible display (i.e. more resilience to cracking) and the self healing back...

I'm already drooling.

You can preorder yours at Rogers.  The pricing is looking at $199 on a 2 year subsidy and $650 outright, it's not way out there as we once potentially heard.
