Protect your Glass - Expert Shield screen protector (GIVEAWAY)

So, I've never been much of a protection guy.  I've been loving my glittery Nexus back and I don't want to hide it, which is why I went for a bumper case... as I knew I didn't want it to crack if it fell.

But what about every day wear and tear? Putting it in the pocket with keys or whatnot?  Well, that's where screen protectors come in.  I was weary as my experience in the past has not been the best - super lab like conditions were needed and plenty of that spray to ensure you had a perfect layout.

When Expert Shield asked if we would try them out... I figured why not.  I can always take it off when done.

Here's the claims:

So, I've had the screen on now for over a week now as I felt it wouldn't be right to really review it after a day or 2.  I've had it on, normal wear and tear, left it outside on warm days, left it in pockets etc... and here's my findings.

Pros

  • You really don't feel it and the screen responds as it would normally.  With some screens I had noticed a 'lag'.  Not with these.
  • Setting it up didn't require any of that spray liquid, so it was pretty simple and no complicated over wetting and waiting for a day or so to 'cure'
  • It really does protect - not a scratch on it.  I did have some light scarring on my back glass so I'm glad it's there now.
  • Really good customer service
Cons
  • Although there's no extra chemicals to use, it is a little tricky to get the hang to put it on JUST right... and if you're like me, OCD and all, you are super irked by any little bit that's just off.  Mine's off by a degree or so slanted and it bugs me.  I was able to lift it up and retry again, but the more you monkey with it, the worse it's going to be.  Trust me, read ALL the instructions first.  I have a tiny corner that's no longer sticky any more.  Nothing terrible -- but my OCD sees it every time.
  • Greasy!  Seriously, on bright days it feels like it's foggy... with the N4's oleophobic glass I'd never noticed how much grease these phones can acquire.  Keep one of those cloths handy.
Pretty straight forward.  But like I said, if there's a tip I can leave you is read the instructions (did I say that already?  Well, it's important!).  I hadn't done too many of these myself, so I'm not super accustomed to proper methodology, and if you halfass it, it'll look like crap.  Plus, the way the tabs are it can be a little easy to mistake which goes against the glass and which is the outside.

The tip that the back of the package recommends is a good one.  If you did SUPER clean everything but just as you're putting it on a fleck of dust attracts to the underside... you can still lift if off the glass, then get some scotch tape and wrap it with the sticky side out and dab at the spot to remove the speck.

Best thing about this product however has to be Ed.  He's been super responsive for any of my questions and was really good at setting me at ease.  I always give extra points to companies with good customer service as you know you'll have that peace of mind later on.

He's got a good thorough blog post himself on tips to install - http://www.expertshielduk.com/blog/washing_cleaning/

So, for $12 for BOTH front and back protectors... definitely a 'buy' in my mind.
