I'm a fan of wearable tech... I've always been a gadget guy, and as a kid I was a 'calculator watch' kid. So I've been loving smartwatches since the LG G Watch. Up until yesterday I was rocking the Pixel Watch 2 as my daily watch. Sure, I've reviewed a couple other watches since, but I always come back to Pixel Watches for their 'simplicity'.
Well, and then Google has gifted me the new Pixel Watch 4 and I am excited.
This is not only a new watch to try, but it's the 45mm band, meaning the display is bigger, I think I'll like that.
Let's take a look at the specs
- 1.2" (41mm) or 1.4" (45mm)
- 408x408 or 456x456
- 3000nits
- Snapdragon W5 Gen 2
- 2GB RAM
- 32GB storage
- 325mAh or 455mAh
- IP68
Now the 41mm will run you $480CDN and the bigger 45mm will run you $550CAD. Want LTE on top and that's another $120 tacked on.
I'm looking forward to it. I do have the LTE model, but I never used it on my previous (Bell will charge like $15/month extra and to me it's just not worth it).
But, let's unbox this baby!
So, one of the first things I notice unboxing is that it's got a new proprietary charger. Woof. I mean it does look cool, I like that: little base to stand it up in. But ... if it's going to be a base, why not have a USB-C port on it... so I could plug it into one of the hundreds of cables I have laying around? I will have to find a port somewhere to connect the attached cable - tuck it away ... and then if I go on a trip, I'll have to unplug it all ... a bit of a pain to me.
Sigh.
But it does look cool. Also, not having those pins on the part of the watch that touches your skin lessens the chance they'll get gummed up/corroded etc...
Another quick notice is that the display, it's definitely more 'pebble' and the dome for it is more 'bulgy-outy'. It really hammers home the near bezel-less display too. I like it. Plus, the Expressive Material really feels at home this way.
Stay tuned for my full review.
