Android Platform Distribution (May 2013)

So how's the platform doing for installs of differing versions?

Let's take a look.  Developer.Android.com releases these stats monthly as a way for those developing apps to know what targets to shoot for.  For numbers guys like me it's just cool to see how it's progressing towards the later builds.

Last month they changed the 'formula' on how they calculated the stats (i.e.active users via the Play Store) so we're building a good baseline for new data:

VersionCodenameAPIDistribution
1.6Donut40.1%
2.1Eclair71.7%
2.2Froyo83.7%
2.3 -
2.3.2
Gingerbread90.1%
2.3.3 -
2.3.7
1038.4%
3.2Honeycomb130.1%
4.0.3 -
4.0.4
Ice Cream Sandwich1527.5%
4.1.xJelly Bean1626.1%
4.2.x172.3%

Great to see that devices with >4.0 are now over 50% and Gingerbread is starting to really lesson.

Then they also released some info on screen resolution too, if you're interested (tho' they don't get 'sizes', just DPI)
