[Rant] Carrier Deals - and 'loyalty'

Okay, so I'm with Bell, but honestly, I bet you could add 'any' carrier in this rant I'm about to give.

It's "Black Friday" deal time, and as a true-to-heart Scot, I'm always looking for a deal and I heard about a deal with Bell for a plan that includes Canada-US data.

I don't travel A LOT, but enough where that $13/day Roam add on can add up, so I thought to look into it.

I logged into my Bell and you can see this:

Now, I pay $75/month for 65GB and then add the $13/day whenever I'm in the USA.  So, even if the $55 listed rate has a lot of snags in the small print, I still might be better off.

And there is.  I've spent the better part of my morning on call/chat with the loyalty department to find out that that listed deal is ONLY if I'm a brand new activation (then why is it in my list?  I'm logged in as an existing customer... do I want a 2nd phone number and then cancel the first?).

We spent a good amount of time talking about 'my deal' as an existing customer would be $120/month.  Which is a big step up from $75 (sure, I'd go from 65GB to 100+... can't remember, but I don't care about the data usage).  $45/month would be like 3.5 days/month in the US in order for it to make sense.  Or... 45*12 = $540 extra per year ... ~42 days/year in the states to be cheaper than paying for a daily rate.

Eventually, we talk a bit longer and the $120 is now reduced to $96/month.

Doing the math it would be ~20 days/year that I'd need to be in the states for it to 'break-even'.  It's closer, but still, comparing $96/month option to the listed $55 feels like a bit of a 'lame sorry'.

They also keep trying to push me on a new phone, when they can see I'm already using a brand new phone.  Which ratchets up the frustration because I keep saying I don't need one... and then I get this:

So, it's for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, so $54 a month isn't bad (but don't forget the $70 upgrade fee they'll tack on)... but what gets me is the $96/month plan I was told, is now $90, then less $10 auto pay, and a $15 credit or something... so $25 off of the $90 is ... $65.

If I got a new phone, they'll let me pay $10 less a month, in multiple countries, with almost 3x the data.  They're 'losing' money on the phone (with discounts and monthly payments) and they'll go lower on my plan?  Keep the phone, save the money, and give me that savings on my plan!!!!

This is just mind boggling, and I'm fuming and ... well, I just needed to rant.

I've had to tell them "I'll think about it".
