At this stage in the smartphone world is 'WATERPROOF' really required?

I'm really questioning if 'WATERPROOF' is really required. I'm personally not prone to drop my phone in water, whether this is the sink, toilet, lake, pool etc. I have yet to see any concrete numbers on the amount of break/fix from carriers to demonstrate a need for waterproof.

You also don't see a rush of people jumping up and down at the store to get a replacement for water damage neither. Could this simply be a "WANT" rather than a "NEED" for waterproofing smartphones? Surely, people aren't that clumsy to just go OOPPS I dropped it in water? Can they?

What's your take on this? Here's a POLL!
