Okay, the Google I/O stuff is just inundating, but I'm here for it. I love seeing what people can do.
One of my favourite items with the Pixel line up is the Watch; it's the perfect companion - when I go for walks I can check when notifications come in, respond, control media, without having to get my phone out of my pocket.
So, when Google is announcing the newest version for it, I'm checking it out:
Now the important thing is that they are just showing things off on an emulator. Which is odd to not show it on a past watch (I get not showing off the next watch too early); which has me a little scared that my PW4 may not get this? But that sounds ridiculous tho'.. but... Google can be unpredictable.
On to the updates as displayed:
Tiles now = Widgets
ust to use some more closely used nomenclature, the Tiles (the left and right screens from the homescreen of the watch) are now going to be called widgets, like what we have on the phone (which is kinda what they are) and should provide a little more flexibility.
Live Updates
On our phones if you ordered an Uber some time, or taken a flight, you'd get that live, persistent notification up top letting you know the status of that action. How far are you etc.. Well, now that can be on the watch too.
Intelligence
AI had to make a play into it, and it's allowing the Watch to tap into that intelligence and connect with apps to start specific functions (like start a run etc...), or even automate tasks.
Standardized workout tracker
Okay, this might be odd, as we are going to see Fit and Fitbit merge into Health... so there should be that kind of tracking, and Health Connect usually can fit its way into other apps as well, but it looks like it might become a more seamless process with some universal interface for any tracking app.
More Media controls
So I didn't notice this before, but I do have some controls already from the PW4 about if I start a music playlist I can pick where I want the sound to go to (usually I start from my phone while I have the earbuds in); but this will enhance more features to that (seeing some home speakers in that list, whereas now I only see paired earbuds).
Maybe... just maybe, we can start playing music on the watch too!?!?!
You'll also be able to pick which app to start.
We'll just have to wait to see more when it's fully released!
