Google Pixelsnap Charger with Stand review

So here's my review for the new Pixelsnap charger (that comes with the stand).

Now, I've been used to the Pixel Stands (both gens)  and used on a daily basis.  So when I unboxed this, I was hoping for some continuation in the lineage of a Pixel Stand.  Not so.

Essentially, it's a MagSafe charger, like the Apple one, just a puck with a string.

You can just buy the 'puck' the Pixelsnap Charger for $55CAD (slightly cheaper than those Apple ones, but way cheaper than OnePlus's, but theirs go to 50W vs. 25W).

For the extra $45CAD you get the artsy looking pebbles to hold that puck.

A couple issues right off the hop I'm noticing.  The puck has the cord plugged in.  Where I've used the Pixel Stands in the past, they had a USB-C port on it to have a cord plug into it.  With the cord plugged in I'd have to go and unplug the other cord, or find another spot to plug it in.  It really messes with my organization.  I get that they want the puck thin so no port, but it's a missed step.  Plus, the cord is just that short - so desktop you'll have to find something to plug in ON the desk - going down to find a wall plug is going to come up short.

Also, the way the puck fits into the stand, it only fits in one way, if only they had made the opening with that extra slit a little longer you could have turned the puck on its side and slide it out the back.

I get it, it's not meant to be portable, but they make it a little bit challenging.

The speeds (it can go up to 25W) will depend on your chosen charger (it doesn't come with one).

For me the big disappointment comes in from the fact that there's no 'pixel stand app' functionality.  On the Pixel Stands, you plop it in, it recognizes the stand and you can set up your desired idle screen, or charging speeds.  There's nothing with this.  It's just a charger that comes with a fancy stand.

I like it... but I felt like for the same price in past years we got more.  Sure there's magnets now, but that can't justify the price alone.
