Unboxing TCL 60 XE NXTPAPER 5G

Okay, that title is a bit a mouthful, and I'm never a fan when OEMs do this to phones.

  • TCL ... Brand
  • 60 ... a series separator/model
  • XE ... modifier to that series
  • NXTPAPER ... okay, that's just thrown in as a branding play to let you know what specific feature
  • 5G ... okay, we don't need to know if it's 5G or not anymore (do we?)

TCL, it's a brand, not that well known out there, but it's a true option for someone who's looking for cheaper options, or ... honestly, just needing some change.  My kid is one of those folks who just wants something different from the crowd.  He recognized the brand right away and was excited.

For me, I was curious about the NXTPAPER term, I had heard it thrown about in the past, and I love eInk for my eBook and this is a 'type' of that, but for a phone.  Interesting.

So today, we're just going to unbox it.

Before I unbox it, let's talk about the specs, what are you going to get for the low low price of $325CDN

  • 6.78" @ 2460x1080, 120Hz
  • MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ (2.4GHz octacore)
  • 6GB RAM
  • 128GB storage + microSD
  • Rear cameras: 50MP + 5MP (wide) + 2MP (for depth)
  • Front camera:  32MP
  • 5010mAh

Yeah, so nothing super IMPRESSIVE (especially as I'm so used to all the flagships), but it has a headphone jack.  My kid will be happy.

Of note is that 5000mAh battery, especially when we get into that fancy display, it's a long long lasting battery.

So it's neat, this NXTPAPER thing I'm going to have to really dive into it.  But having the headphone jack, and the fingerprint on the power button are definitely interesting.

I'll do a little more of a 'first impression' on this soon, but let me know what you're curious about
