So what was announced today over at Android.com?
Let's have a look at the Nexus 6, 9 and Player, shall we?
Nexus 6
- 6" @ 2560x1440 with Gorilla Glass 3
- 2.7GHz x4 Snapdragon 805
- 3GB RAM
- 32 or 64GB storage
- 13MP / 2MP
- 3220mAh
And it comes with a rapid charger that claims 6 hours of use with only 15 minutes of charge time. Based on the Moto X 2014 it also has dual front facing speakers.
Now, people are a little butt-hurt over the price. We've been spoiled with the great pricing strategy of Nexus devices in the past... so here's the reality check: 32GB comes in at $750. Ouch! But reasonable compared other flagships out there.
I'm just concerned about 6" screen size. That's HUGE. The G Flex was 6" and I just hated holding it. The Z Ultra was 6.44" and it was a chore to use. I really doubt that there's going to be much market for that size.
Nexus 9
- 8.9" @ 2048x1536 (yes that's 4:3)
- 2.3GHz Tegra K1
- 2GB RAM
- 16 or 32GB storage
- 8MP / 1.6MP
- 6700mAh
- $400USD for the 16GB and $480USD for the 32GB
Price is not bad, but wowza, that's a battery. It's a nice jump in for HTC as they haven't done a tablet in... well... since the Flyer. The 4:3 aspect ratio is odd to have chosen; but I guess it's trying something different (watch out, or Apple'll sue!)
Nexus Player
- 1.8GHz x4 Intel
- 1GB RAM
- 8GB Storage
- HDMI out (1080p @ 60Hz)
The first real Android TV device out there, made by Asus it'll be a cool addition to my living room at just $100. I'm a little concerned about the 8GB of storage, as some games will easily fill that quickly.
Also, note that the gamepad is sold separately (no price announced for that).
