The Essential phone is available for pre-order via Telus

The most interesting thing about Android is that you can make it your own.  Okay, maybe it's not the most interesting, thing, but that's the core of Android itself.  Be together, not the same.  And to do that, sometimes there's just new entrants to the market to offer something unique.  You can't get that with Apple.

So, the 'father of Android', ol' Andy Rubin himself went off and made a new company that is producing a phone called "Essential".

Now, it's not available yet, but it is available for pre-order via Telus, which is pretty awesome.

So, $1050 outright.  A little steep, but remember, here's what you're getting:
  • 5.71" @ QuadHD (almost the 2:1 ratio of 2560x1312 minus the little bit around the camera)
  • Snapdragon 835 (2.45GHz x4 + 1.9GHz x4)
  • 4GB RAM
  • 128GB storage
  • 13MP (f/1.85) + 13MP (monochrome) / 8MP (f/2.2)
  • 3040mAh
And my favourite is the 'mod' bit, where you can snap accessories on.  You know I love the mod-life, so there's that, plus it's from Andy Rubin himself.  This guy knows Android.  Hopefully, that'll translate into faster updates and newer features down the road.

Pre-order it now and you can buy the camera for just $100 (saving you $170).
Offer valid until August 16, 2017, 11:59pm ET. While quantities last. TELUS reserves the right to remove the offer at any time without prior notice. For a limited time only. Conditions apply. Customer must purchase the Essential Phone with the Essential Camera to receive the discount.
