Motorola Moto G wows us on the price/feature

It's November 13th, which means that as we discussed earlier, today's the day that Motorola held their Moto G event.

Well, it was fairly early this morning that they let the device's info out.  I'm jealous as +Amanda Blain got to be in the Toronto office while they launched it.  (see her post below)

It's a very nice looking device.  Not the top end of the spec race, but I think Motorola taught us to stop looking for that with the Moto X.  I bet the Moto G won't be any different.  Where it's stupdendously going to be doing any outdoing of the competition is the price.

Check out the details below

Meet the Moto G

By all signs it doesn't really ring any different from the Moto X device, except for some lower specs:

  • 4.5" @ 1280x720
  • 1.2GHz x4 Snapdragon 400 w/ 1GB RAM
  • 8GB storage (can get a 16 apparently)
  • 5MP / 1.3MP
  • Android 4.3 (4.4 by January)
  • 2070mAh

What, no headphones?  So really it is the step-brother to the Moto X.  Not as robust, but really, running as minimal version as possible (i.e. stock Android) it'll do just fine.  Folks laughed at the Moto X, but it has won over more people than I can count.

Where this device will shine, and hopefully sell untold millions is the price.  $200 off contract.

The Nexus 5 is a spectacular deal... $150 less and you can get pretty near the best price / feature you're going to find out there.

This is definitely a device I'm going to invite anybody I can think of to get.  Just think of the folks you know with a VERY old phone.  With a flip phone... without A phone.  For $200 they can buy a SMART phone, and have every amenity that Google will want them to have (I'm assuming G because of Google)... besides some of the typical Canadian rants.

What do you think?  Here's what Amanda's posted:
