[UPDATED] Optimus G's sequel seemingly revealed [rumour]

So, a while back at a previous blog I was able to get my hands on the Optimus G.  I did so warily as I had never been a fan of an LG device to date, but the rumoured 'next Nexus' had me curious.

Before the Nexus was announced I got the G sent to me for a review.  I was stunned.  It was sturdy, it was stellar, it was sexy.  I knew we were in for good things for the 'next Nexus'.  I figured if I wasn't able to snag a Nexus I'd get this and root.

Well, it looks like they did so well with that model that they've planned a great successor.

Those of you who follow me on Google Plus (+Ryan Moore) know that I'm not that big on rumours, but this was such a great phone that a planned second one has me kind of excited.  My current Nexus 4 isn't quite as knocking my socks off as the Optimus G did.  But that's probably because I wasn't expecting much out of the G originally.  Plus we don't have LTE (officially) or an SD card on the N4...

Anyhow, the rumours have started on the next iteration of the G, going to be labeled as the G2, or the G Pro... not sure how I like the naming.  G2 isn't too bad (but wasn't the Magic supposed to be the G2), but you know how I don't like sequentially named devices/movies; and the G Pro is okay, but usually I like to see 'pro' added where extra features are offered over and above a 'non-pro' model.

A Japanese paper has said they have an LG-04E model coming out later this year with the following features:

  • 5-inch display with 1080p Full HD resolution
  • 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor
  • 2GB RAM
  • 32GB memory
  • 13-megapixel camera
  • 3000mAh battery
  • LTE support
  • Weight: 160g
  • Size: 139 x 70 x 10.1 mm
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

The updates I've heard that it is also going to be pushed back until fall, so after Google I/O announces Key Lime Pie so that the device will ship with 5.0.

So, rumours are flying around, and the only thing we can do is just try to take it in and see if there's some possible overlapping with facts on these speculations.

[Update:  looks like someone's found a leaked spec sheet]

Just in case you wanted to watch, here's the review I did on the Optimus G.
