Blackberry's newest Android phone - the DTEK60

So how do we pronounce it?  dee-tek-sixty or spell the letters?

It's a weird name however you spin it, but what's interesting in this is that it has been Alcatel who produced the hardware for Blackberry to brand under their auspice and put their BB apps in.

There's lots of folks who love the Hub, or their BBM, so it makes perfect sense to keep at it.

And for $650 out of contract it's not a bad price.

What do you get for that?

Well, on their site, you'll get a bundle of the phone, rapid travel charger (a spare one, mind you) and a softshell case.  As for the phone itself, it's packing:

  • 5.5" QuadHD (2560x1440)
  • Snapdragon 820 (2.15GHz x2 + 1.6GHz x2)
  • 4GB RAM
  • 32GB storage + microSD
  • 21MP (f/2.0) / 8MP (f/2.2 1.125um)
  • 3000mAh
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Android 6.0

That's pretty decent specs right there, for just $650.

And Alcatel's done some great work with their phones lately.  You can see the hints of the Idol in this phone with the dual speakers and the 'convenience key' (or 'boom key' if you were on the Idol).

I wish them the very best with it.  The price is right.  Now, will the customers be willing to bite?
