Oppo R9 and R9 Plus launched in China

Oppo announced two new mid-range phones in Beijing today, the R7 and R7 Plus. Both phones improve on the specs of their predecessors, the R7 and R7 Plus. The standout feature for both phones is front facing 16 megapixel cameras, for even better selfies!

Unfortunately, the announcement event was not covered in English so we rely on reports from other sites and bloggers. We will update when more information is released to the international market.

Both phones have a similar design to the R7 series with a finely sandblasted aluminum body in either gold or pink.

Both come with VOOC fast chargers but not the new Super VOOC that was announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last month.

Some reports suggest that the R9 Plus will have a gyroscope and NFC which were missing from the R7 Plus. I will update when Oppo releases the full spec list. If that is true, then it is great news.

Both phones will be released with Android 5.1.1 lollipop but with a new faster and more efficient ColorOS 3.0. Both phones include dual sim card slots which can also be used for as microSD memory expansion and fingerprint sensors. The sensor will be on the front rather than the back like we have seen on the R7 Plus.

The R9 Plus

  • 6 inch Full HD AMOLED display
  • Octa-core Snapdragon 652 chipset
  • 4GB RAM
  • 4,120 mAh battery
  • 16 megapixel back camera with f/2.0 aperture
  • Ultra-HD 4K video
  • 16 megapixel front camera
  • Fingerprint sensor


The R9 and R9 Plus will be available in China in April. News regarding other markets will be announced soon. Oppo R9 will be sold in China at a price of $430 USD, while  the R9 Plus will cost $510 USD.
