Sony Z2 initial impressions

So, it's been a while since I got to review a new phone.  And not only is it great to try new toys, but also helps to make +Mark Lastiwka jealous as it's not only a Sony, but it's the new Z2... and for further envy it's also in a sexy purple!

I get to play for another week and a half still, but I wanted to provide you some initial thoughts.  Simply put:  awesome.  Very fluid, very sleek.  The 'slab' feel really makes it feel somewhat like some futuristic type device rather than a phone with curves.  I'm really digging it.

What I'm not digging is the button placement.  I get that the wireless charging port is on the left side, so when you put it on that side to charge (if you get the dock) you couldn't access the buttons... but still it takes some getting used to.  Plus, I've not been much of a camera button guy...

..,but I understand WHY.  The G Lens in the camera is pretty awesome!  I'll be taking plenty this weekend so I'll have lots of samples for the review.

Other bits... after some use I'm really REALLY liking how smooth it acts.  Great screen resolution. Fluid animations.  And snappy.  Battery is also been pretty good.  I'm going to swap my SIM card in it to really put it through it's paces.

It's that good.  Sure, it has some things I'm not a huge fan of (i.e. the UI is just 'off' to me... it's a preference thing).  But seriously it all feels like minor points that are easily overlooked.

We'll talk more this weekend during the Hangout Show.

Otherwise, stay tuned and I'll have a full review by next Friday.  Should you have any questions, just let me know and I'll be sure to include it in the review.
