LG releases an 8.3" tablet - the G Pad

I gotta say, I do like the name.

And I do like what LG has done in the past year or so.  The Optimus G, the Nexus 4, the new G2 (tho' I'm still not sold on the button on the back).  But things are really pointing to LG stepping up their game and producing some high quality devices.

The new G Pad 8.3 will help it stand out for 2 reasons.

  1. It's gunna get sued.  I can't imagine Apple's going to stand for that name.
  2. The odd sizing.

8.3" is just an odd enough size to stand out from the crowd.  I do have to admit, I'm intrigued why that particular size.  Normally tablets are 7 or 10.

Sure, there's the iPad mini at 7.9, there's the Note 8... and to be quite honest, I do like the sizing of the Note 8.  It was darned near perfect.

How's 8.3 going to feel?

Here's the specs:

LG G Pad 8.3

  • 8.3" @ 1920x1200
  • 1.7GHz x4 Snapdragon 600 w/ 2GB RAM
  • 16GB storage
  • 5MP / 1.3MP
  • 4600mAh

Funnily enough it's also 8.3mm thick!

Not bad specs all things considered.  For the devices it's up against, it's killing it in the resolution.
