CyanogenMod Hit 4.2.2 & Achieves Greatness

CyanogenMod is undoubtedly one of the most recognized roms available for our Android devices. It seems no matter what phone you got, whether you're on a Samsung Galaxy device, HTC, or other, a lot of people strive for that pure Google experience.

CyanogenMod just bumped up their nightly builds to the new 4.2.2 that dropped just days ago, and amazingly enough I can't find a single bug with them!

Most of us should know by now the change-log on the 4.2.2 release. Basically we've seen general security, performance, and bug fixes, along side some other minor changes like toggle-able notification widgets, progress bar and time for downloading apps from the Play Store. There are a few other minor tweaks here n' there, but I pointed out most of the notable ones.

All that is great, but what's more exciting is CyanogenMod merged this update within 2 days, and is currently hard at work providing more kernel tweaks and other changes that go with it. I've been using the latest 4.2.2 build just hours after release (Feb 15 Build for Nexus 4) and I've yet to find a single problem. Best of all, for my fellow Nexus 4 users, LTE is left intact, as CyanogenMod doesn't update the radio which was updated to block LTE in Google's official 4.2.2 release.

CyanogenMod has been doing wonderful things with their builds, recently they added some of my most favorite features such as:

  • Slowly Increasing Volume on Alarms
  • Adjustable Auto-Brightness
  • WiFi Priority
  • Countless other features, I could go on forever
If you're a rooter and rom flasher such as myself, and you're not using CyanogenMod, what the hell is wrong with you? Hit up Get.Cm to grab the latest CyanogenMod build for your phone.

If you use another rom other than CyanogenMod, let us know in the comments below and why your rom works better for you.

  1. Since I went to 4.2.2 with Stock Android I'll have to flash the old radio from 4.2.1 to get the radio back right?

    1. Yes.

And LTE resets like before upon rebooting your phone. You'll have to go back and set it manually each time you reboot.

However, there are simple tweaks you can make to the build.prop that will keep it on LTE on reboot, but once you flash the Next CM nightly, It'll rewrite the build.prop back to normal, so it'll be lost once again.

  2. Does LTE stay on after a reboot in CM?

  3. No it doesn't. Unless you make the change Tom was talking about above. However your adjusted APN stays selected so the only thing you have to do is set lte in the *#*#4636#*#* menu. Its so fast I haven't bothered with the build.prop.

  4. Now, Tom, you said loading CM from a stock scenario was an issue - how about if you're already on 10.1, can you just flash as a nightly and no issue?

    1. Yes, if you're on CM10.1 already without issues, It shouldn't be a problem if your not using the new bootloader and Radio

    2. A friend told me you can restore your Bootloader and radio if you have an older NANdroid backup from 4.2.1

  5. Yes, If you're already on CM10.1 you're ok.
But you don't want to have to new 4.2.2 bootloader & Radio. You wan't to have the old 4.2.1 Bootload and Radio.

If you're unsure what you have running, I'd highly suggest Flashing 4.2.1 factory Google images, Rooting and then use Rom Manager or manually flash CM that way.

  6. Hi Tom, I recently updated my samsung galaxy vibrant 2.1 to the cyanogen 4.2.2 and I know that it doesn't come with the google play store app. So I manually downloaded the google play store version 3.10.10 but it does not seem to be working or even function. Where can I find a compatible google play store app to manually download?

    1. You're suppose to flash a Gapps pack with it, that includes your play store and many other essential apps to run.

You can Download the Gapps pack from the link above and everything will be fine after that.
